The day is almost here! Our next valley-wide house church picnic will be this Saturday, February 28, at Encanto Park in downtown Phoenix. In addition to the picnic, a great group of bands will be playing from 12 noon to around 5pm. The lineup will be the band “Consider This” (from Sonlight Home Church, Surprise, AZ), “Everlasting”, “The Chris Munger Band”, and “Soul Provider”.
There will be about 30 minutes between bands to give an open mike to anyone so led a chance to share their faith and/or their story with everyone. A table will be set up with books, Bibles, and other resources. Nate, a brother who recently moved to Phoenix, has offered to be at the table and available to pray with anyone.
In addition, John Rowden (from East Valley Grace, Gilbert, AZ), and of the Durango Grill will be cooking up Hebrew National hotdogs for everyone. We will have condiments and chips with water and lemonade to go with them. Everyone is encouraged also to bring some other dishes to share with everyone.
And don’t forget that Enchanted Island is just across the parking lot from Amp Island if the kids get bored. The weather Saturday is supposed to be in the 70-80 range so it will be a great day to be outside. I also recommend some extra water and sunscreen.
There is no agenda except to enjoy a great time of fellowship, food, and fun with each other. And at the same time, reach out to others in the park that may come by to hear the music. These are opportunities for us to reach out to those outside the church and show the love of Jesus.
I’ll see you there. I’ll be helping out at the grill so be sure to stop by and get a dog. See this map for locations within the park.

As you know from my previous post, Encanto Park in downtown Phoenix, will be the location for the next house church gathering on February 28. This will be a “Valley-wide House Church Picnic” with all of the house churches invited to picnic and fellowship in the park at Amp Island.
From about 12 noon to 5pm, the band “Consider This” (Sonlight Home Church, Surprise, AZ) will be playing their brand of “rock, funk and blues with an edge” along with bands “Everlasting”, “The Chris Munger Band”, and “Soul Provider”. We will be inviting everyone in the park to come to Amp Island for this “Free Music Festival”. We will be printing up some “concert tickets” to give out to people at the park in the morning. Of course, we will also be providing free hot dogs to anyone with (or without) a “concert ticket”.
This is a great opportunity to picnic, fellowship with other house churches, and even to share your faith. We will have some Pocket Testaments (Gospels of John) in English and Spanish to give out to anyone interested. Bibles or tracts to give out would also be useful.
This Saturday, February 14, I will be meeting with members of “Consider This” and the other bands at Amp Island at Encanto Park around 6PM to go over some of the logistics for the 28th. If you are interested in seeing how you can help with this, please join us Saturday at Encanto Park. Amp Island is located just off Encanto Blvd. between 15th and 12th Avenues. Encanto Blvd. is between McDowell and Thomas. If you can’t make it this Saturday but still want to help out, please call me at 602-524-9400.

Its been planned for several months and now the time is almost here. All the house churches in and around Phoenix are invited to join us for a gathering/outreach on February 28.
The band “Consider This” has the Amp Island area at Encanta Park, 2605 N. 15th Ave, Phoenix, reserved for the entire day. From about 12 noon to 5pm, they will be playing their brand of “rock, funk and blues with an edge” along with bands “Everlasting”, Christopher Munger, and “Soul Provider”. The intent is to attract everyone in the park with the music and give them a free meal. The meal will be hot dogs cooked by John Rowden of the Durango Grill. He will be bringing his very large propane grill for cooking the hot dogs and also will be providing a very large number of dogs to cook.
The plan is for us to get there some time before noon and roam around the park giving out flyers to invite people to Amp Island for the hot dogs and music. We plan to have a table with information. There was also interest in having a table for prayer also.
In the middle of all this, we hope that house church members will enjoy fellowship around the music and the food and the outreach.
But we do need volunteers. There were not many house churches represented in our earlier meetings at the Durango Grill discussing this event. So now we need people who could hand out the flyers in the morning. We need someone who would be willing to design and print a small flyer to hand out. We need help with the food. John has offered to take care of the hot dogs but we still need to provide the buns, chips, and condiments. It would be great if the house churches brought some dishes to compliment the hot dogs. If someone could provide a number of tracts or Bibles (better in Spanish) that could be given away, that would be awesome. Of course, we need people willing to share their faith.
If you want to find out more about “Consider This”, see their home website or their Myspace website. The park is also home of the Enchanted Island theme park which is a great place for the kids, as well as the adults.
Lets make this a great day of fellowship, making new friends, reaching out to others, and just enjoying the day. Even if you don’t feel called to help out, please come and have a great time anyway. Please let me (Larry) know if you can help out in any way (602-524-9400).
