Encanto Park Outreach

Posted by ljoh3106 on November 19, 2009

Be sure to plan to be at the Music Festival/Outreach at Encanto Park next Saturday, November 21.  The music will begin around 11:00am with Dotty and Tina followed by The McCabes and Consider This.  There will be free hot dogs (courtesy of John and Debbie Rowden of the Durango Grill) until they run out during this time.  We could still use some volunteers to help with setup/teardown, prayer table, and ministering.  The last one we did in February was a great time, even though the temp was in the 90s that day.  We had 3 confirmed salvation decisions and we are praying for a greater move of the Spirit this time.  Please come and help minister in any way you can.  If you are so led, please contact Colleen Kolb (602-390-9600) or Howard Kolb (602-390-2585).

If you are on Facebook, go to the fan page for the outreach here and become a fan.  And then share it with all your friends.

Friday news of the week

Posted by ljoh3106 on November 14, 2009

As I mentioned last weekend, an organic church conference was held in Las Vegas that featured Frank Viola and Milt Rodriguez.  Chad Irving and some others from Oasis House Church in Tempe were there and Chad sent a newsletter out tonight with some observations.  If you didn’t get it, go to his website, http://organicchurchresource.org , and sign up for his newsletter.  Chad wrote that a detailed discourse of the information covered in the conference can be found in Frank Viola’s book From Eternity to Here, which is offered by the Organic Church Resource website at an excellent  price.

Also last weeked, John Rowden and I went to Tempe to pray on “A” mountain.  We try to do this the first Saturday of each month as I explained last week.   What a surprise we found.  It was so crowded that our usual parking lot was full and there didn’t seem to be any place available to park that didn’t require some cash, and of course we didn’t have any.   After some driving around we ended up at the new Tempe Arts Center buiding on the south bank of Tempe Town Lake.  I was able to park there and we walked east toward the Mill Ave. bridges.  We noticed that there were thousands of people doing a charity walk across the bridge.  And people were setting up snacks and refreshments in the park area to welcome the walkers back.  It looked like their route would bring them back across the other bridge and down into the park.  John and I decided to stop a little distance past the bridge and sat down and spent some time in prayer.

After we finished praying, we started walking back toward the park where we passed some tables that had water and snacks.  We were surprised that they were offering them to us.  We declined and thanked them as we continued on our way.  After we passed them we realized that they must have thought we were part of the walk.  Or maybe it was because they saw us praying.  Anyway, we had a good laugh about that.

I want to remind everyone again about the Music Festival/Outreach at Encanto Park next Saturday, November 21.  The music will begin around 11:00am with Dotty and Tina followed by The McCabes and Consider This.  We will also be giving away hot dogs (courtesy of John and Debbie Rowden of the Durango Grill) until they run out during this time.  We still need volunteers to help with setup/teardown, prayer table, and ministering.

I hope everyone has a blessed week filled with moments where God’s presence is so obvious, so clear, that you just have to share them with someone else.

Friday news of the week

Posted by ljoh3106 on November 7, 2009

This is the first of what I hope to be regular weekly posts to the website to let everyone know what is happening with the house churches in the valley of the Son.

First of all, there is a new house church starting up in Gilbert, Acts House Assembly.  Find out more about them at http://www.actshouseassembly.org and http://www.meetup.com/acts-house-assembly .

This weekend, there is a house church conference going on in Las Vegas with Frank Viola and Milt Rodriguez.  There are some folks from Oasis in Tempe attending and will be returning tomorrow.  If you didn’t go, like me, check Chad Irvings website http://organicchurchresource.org for information and resources from the conference.

Every first Saturday of each month, several of us from the east valley house churches go to ‘A’ mountain in Tempe in the morning and hike up to the overlook or the top and spend some time in prayer.  This was begun a couple of years ago and we have been pretty consistent.  We focus our prayers on the cities of the east valley and the students at ASU.  We also pray for our county, state, and federal leaders.  Tomorrow is the first Saturday of November and at least of couple of us will be there at 8am.

Every other Wednesday, some of us from the east valley house churches meet for prayer at the Coffee Rush at Gilbert and Baseline at 7pm.  We catch up on how things are going and then spend some time praying for individual needs within the house churches.  This is a great time of fellowship and prayer.  We will be meeting there this Wednesday, Nov. 11.  Anyone interested in joining us is welcome.

Speaking of Nov. 11, it is Veteran’s Day.  Applebee’s is honoring all veterans and active duty military with a free lunch or dinner on that day.  Tell  every veteran you know about this.  See their website http://www.applebees.com/vetsDay/default.aspx for more information.

Last of all, don’t forget about the Music Festival/Outreach at Encanto Park on November 21.  The music will begin around 11:00am with Dotty and Tina followed by The McCabes and Consider This.  We will also be giving away hot dogs (courtesy of John and Debbie Rowden of the Durango Grill) during this time.  We still need volunteers to help with setup/teardown, prayer table, and ministering.
